Seventh Grade Program

Seventh Grade Program Overview

Seventh graders at West Craven Middle School continue their learning in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Healthful Living.

Language Arts:
Students build stronger reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. They explore a variety of texts—from stories and poems to articles—and learn to analyze and write about what they read. Research projects and group discussions help develop communication and critical thinking.

Mathematics:
Math 7 covers topics like ratios, rational numbers, expressions, equations, geometry, and probability. Students learn to solve real-world problems and think critically about math concepts.

Science:
Students study Earth’s atmosphere and weather, living organisms and their functions, genetics and inheritance, motion and forces, and energy transfer. Hands-on investigations help students understand scientific processes.

Social Studies:
Seventh grade explores world history from the Age of Exploration to today. Students study geography and global interactions, focusing on cultural, economic, and political changes, and learn to compare societies from all continents.

Healthful Living:
This course combines health education and physical activity. Students learn about making healthy choices, managing stress, nutrition, drug prevention, interpersonal skills, and goal-setting. Physical activities include social dance, games, and skill-building exercises. Parents may review the health curriculum and request exemptions for sensitive topics.
